Grievance Procedure

The objective of the grievance procedure is to enable members who consider they have a grievance or complaint to have it dealt with as soon as possible.

Initial Process

Any grievance must be submitted in writing to the BLOK Committee. The statement of grievance must set out the basis of the complaint to enable BLOK committee members to consider an appropriate response.

1st Stage Meeting

In the first instance, the grievance will be dealt with, if appropriate, by a member of the BLOK committee. If the grievance relates to a member of the committee or verbal or physical, racial, sexual abuse, or bullying, intimidation or harassment then the matter must be raised with the full BLOK committee. Every opportunity will be given for the grievance to be investigated and discussed.

A meeting will be convened within 5 working days where the grievance will be considered further. All reasonable steps must be taken to attend the meeting. At the end of this stage the complainant will be informed of the response to this grievance and the right to appeal against this finding if they are not satisfied with it

2nd Stage Appeal

If the matter is not resolved then an appeal can be made in writing, raising the matter with the full BLOK committee. Within 5 working days of receipt of this request the complainant will be notified of the date and time of the appeal hearing and should take all reasonable steps to attend. Every opportunity will be given for the grievance to be stated and thoroughly discussed. Notification of the decision will be at the end of the appeal hearing.

The decision of the appeal hearing is final and the grievance procedure  is exhausted following this.
